Race Day Timeline:

  • 6:00 am: first ferry from 10 Haig Point ct, Hilton Head, SC 29928 to Daufuskie Island. Ferry reserved for runners only, race staff.

  • 6:30 am: second ferry from 10 Haig Point ct, HH, SC 29928 to Daufuskie Island. Ferry reserved for runners, race staff, Daufuskie Island staff.

  • 6:45 am: packet pickup on Daufuskie Island

  • 8:15 am: Pre-race announcements

  • 8:25 am: National Anthem by Janet Thacker James

  • 8:30 am: Race start: 13.1 miles, 26.2 miles, 39.3 miles

  • 12:30 pm: Awards ceremony for 13.1 miles and 26.2 miles

  • 4:00 - 4:45 pm: Awards ceremony for 39.3 miles

  • 4:45 pm: Race officially over.

Using the Ferry for the race

Everyone going to Daufuskie Island for the race must have a ferry pass. Ferry passes cost $35 for a roundtrip.

  1. If you are coming over to Daufuskie Island just for the race (on race day) you must catch the ferry at 10 Haig Point ct, Hilton Head, SC 29928

  2. If you are coming to Daufuskie Island the day before and either renting a golf cart or staying in Haig Point, you catch the ferry at 10 Haig Point ct, HH, SC 29928

  3. If you are coming to Daufuskie Island the day before but staying outside of Haig Point, you catch the ferry from 35 Fording Island Road ext, Buckingham Landing, HH, SC 29926

  4. You may purchase a ferry pass at the welcome center at 10 Haig Point ct, HH, SC 29928 on race day or at packet pickup on Friday, January 18th.

  5. You may purchase ferry pass at the ultrasignup race registration site

  6. You may also purchase ferry pass online from Haig Point

  7. On race day there will be a ticket table set up at the base of the HP Dock (10 Haig Point embarkation). Go to that table and show proof of purchase, some form of identification that you’ve registered for the race and have purchased a ferry pass(es). Runners, spectators and volunteers will be given a ferry pass at the table.

  8. There is a special 6:00 am ferry for the race! This ferry along with the 6:30 ferry is for runners and race volunteers only! If you are a spectator please wait and catch the 7:30 am ferry to Daufuskie Island.

  9. The ferry runs on a very tight schedule! There will be lots of people due to the race. For that reason we ask that you arrive about an hour prior to departure as the ferry leaves on time and does not wait for anyone.

Ferry Schedule: Below is the normal ferry schedule. For the race, a 6:00 am ferry will be available. The 6:00 am and 6:30 am ferries are for runners only. For spectators, family and friends, please catch the 7:30 and later ferries over.

Runners, arrive at 10 Haig Point embarkation early on race day in order to catch the 6:00 or 6:30 ferries! If you wait and catch the 7:30 ferry you are risking not arriving early enough on Daufuskie Island for the start of the race!

Personal Boat to Daufuskie Island

If you plan to boat to Daufuskie Island for the race please call 843.686.2000 to make a reservation for space at Haig Point’s community dock which is a short walk to the start|finish. There is a $25 docking fee per boat. Please call in advance, then upon arrive see the Mansion attendant to check in.

Parking for the Race

You may park at the Haig Point embarkation parking lot. If parking lots fills up you may park along the side of the road (not obstructing traffic) all the way out to and around the traffic circle. We will have two parking attendants to assist.

Packet Pick-up

  1. Packet Pickup will be held at the welcome center at 10 Haig Point ct, HH, SC 29928 on Friday, January 18th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

  2. Packet Pickup will also be held on Daufuskie Island near the Start|Finish on race day (Jan 19th) from 6:30 am -7:30 am.

Arrive on Daufuskie Island at Haig Point | Food & Beer | Volunteers

When you come off the ferry please look for the signs leading to the packet pickup, drop bag tent, start|finish.

  • If you haven’t received your race packet please do so at the packet pick up tent.

  • Runners may drop off their bags at the bag drop tent. Be sure your bag is closed, has your name and bib number clearly and legibly on it. Your bag will be placed in a container and returned to you but you must show your race bib to get it back.

  • Spartina 449 will have a pop-up shop offering 10% off.

  • At the food tent (refer to picture below) there will be bananas and breakfast bars. Around 11:30 am, food will be provided for runners and spectators. Runners must show their race bib to eat for free. Spectators must purchase a Food Ticket from the ticket tent for $8.00. Food provided will be hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, beverages. Beer will be available to anyone over the age of 21 at $3.00 can. You must have an ID for beer consumption and purchase beer at the beer tent.

  • There will be plenty of volunteers wearing white hoodies if you have any questions regarding the race.

Shuttle Service Provided into Haig Point

  • Gas powered golf carts are not allowed in Haig Point, only electric golf carts.

  • If you have a gas powered golf cart please park outside of the South Gate on Haig Point road. Every twenty minutes starting at 6:40 am on race day a shuttle will pick up runners and take them to the shuttle drop-off by the race start.

  • After your race and when you are ready to go back to your golf cart please go back to the shuttle drop-off and you will be taken back to your golf cart.

Course, Aid Stations and Restrooms

  • The race course is 13.1 miles USATF certified. It is flat and fast. Approximately 90% of the course is on paved road. The remainder of the course is flat, hard-packed unpaved roads.

  • Please note that the course is on open roads. We are not closing the roads to traffic as automobiles are very scarce on the island but there are some there. Always run against the traffic! There are more golf carts on the roads than there are cars.

  • The Haig Point gate on Haig Point Road will be open at 6:30 am on race day.

  • There are three water stations on the course. Water stations 1 and 2 are across the road from another and service the following mile points: 2.4, 5.5, 9.2 miles. There is a portable toilet by two these water stations. There is another water station at the 12 mile mark. All three aid stations will carry Hammer Nutrition gels and Heed.

  • Restrooms on the course: 2.4 mile mark -aid station 1, 4.5 mile mark -Freeport, 5.5 mile mark -aid station 2, 6 mile mark -Fire Station, 8.8 mile mark - Fire Station, 9.2 mile mark -aid station 2.

Timing

  • The race will be chip timed. You will receive two timing chips with your race bib. Please attach the chips on each hip, below your shirt line.

  • Please place your race bib on the front of your body.

  • At the end of the race please leave your two timing chips at the table that is set up by the lighthouse.

Race Finish

  • As you finish your race please deposit your timing chips at the back table by the lighthouse. There you will also receive your finisher medal.

  • After receiving your medal please proceed to the post race area where food is available and pictures will be taken.
