INDEPENDENT SCHOOL
LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Daufuskie Island Independent School is a pilot school focused on refining a model of high quality, affordable education in rural areas. Where high quality public options are not available, charter schools are a great solution for more densely populated areas, but many rural communities do not have large enough populations to support a charter model, hence the pertinence of what they refer to as “The Daufuskie Model.”
Daufuskie Island Independent School believes every child, in every community, deserves access to a rich, rigorous, and well-rounded education. By partnering with communities, they instill a love of learning, foster a culture of creativity, create an atmosphere of belonging, and encourage all learners to recognize and reach their potential.
